Ability to design, implement, and assess learner-centered lessons and units that incorporate technology and use appropriate and effective practices in teaching and learning with technology
Summary: For the group project required students to use the internet to research an aquatic biome designated by the teacher. For each biome, students will be required create a brochure or PowerPoint describing their biome, including characteristics unique to their Biome as well as create a quiz for their classmates to take to ensure that learning was taking place. For the individual project, students were to pick an organism of their choice and lists its taxonomy as well as give information about its habitat, food source, current population, etc.
Reflection: For both lessons, I am not 100% that the objectives were met. The students enjoyed doing the projects and technology was definitely being used, but I am not sure how much science was learned, especially for the individual projects. I liked the concept of the students creating quizzes for the other students. That forces them to pay attention to the presentations. Another thing I would consider changing is the length of the time given for both lessons. Although most of my classes have 32 students, there are only about 24 computers in the available computer lab at the school and at least 6 of those are missing mice. With this setback, I think it's important that the students have more time to complete the assignments on their own time.
